Breathers and Suction Strainers
A suction strainer is a protective filter installed at the inlet of a pump or hydraulic system to prevent debris and contaminants from entering and damaging the equipment.

Function and Purpose

A suction strainer serves as the first line of defense in hydraulic and fluid systems by filtering coarse impurities before the fluid reaches the pump, thereby reducing wear, preventing clogging, and extending equipment life. It is typically installed directly in the fluid reservoir or tank and connected to the suction line via threaded connections such as BSP or NPT. Optional bypass valves can be included to prevent pressure fluctuations when the strainer becomes heavily contaminated or when handling viscous fluids.
